One of the major parts of pregnancy and the first major steps of parenting is naming the baby. Gah, what a big job! This post is the first in our series focusing on baby names / children’s names, and we’re starting with middle names for Kinsley. Kinsley is a beautiful name. It was also brought to my attention by a commenter in a mom’s Facebook group that Kinsley is a unisex name. With that in mind, we’ll have two lists below, one with cute middle names for a little girl named Kinsley, and one to help you find the perfect middle name if you are naming your little boy Kinsley.

In recent years, unisex names have become more and more popular. When it comes to finding the perfect name, people take all different routes. Some look for an amazing meaning that holds some importance to them, others stick with family names. Some people look for names with Biblical ties, while others really prefer a traditional name choice. Whatever you choose for your child’s middle name, there is no exact rulebook. Just ask all the famous people, have you seen some of their unique middle names for their children?
Ways to Choose Great Middle Names
Here are a few tips to help you choose middle name ideas:
Consider using a family name.
We have chosen unique first names for our children, and then used family names for their middle names. For example, my oldest son Kaiper (goes by Kai) has the middle name Ambrose after my husband’s grandfather. My daughter, Alana, has the middle name Nicole after my sister. Finally, my youngest Koa’s middle name is Robert after my husband’s step-father.
Think of cute nicknames ahead of time.
If there is a nickname you really want to call your child, think of ways to incorporate it with the middle name. Or, reverse that thinking and when you have your first name + middle name combo, think through some possible nicknames to make sure you like them. We thought Lani would be the nickname that stuck for our daughter, but it turned out her nickname ended up being a shortened combo of her full name, and now she is nicknamed “Lana Cole”.
Consider your last name.
When it comes to considering your last name, this is two-part. First, of course you want to consider how your middle name choice will sound with your last name. For example, I really didn’t like the sound of middle names ending in the sound “un” when our last name ends in that same sound. The second part to this is to seriously consider your previous last name. I’ve seen people use their maiden name as their child’s middle name which is a cute idea.
Go for special meaning.
If you have a name or word that really holds a special meaning to you, using it as a middle name is an easy way to incorporate that meaning into the your child’s name while also not using it as a first name that they have to go by all the time.
Consider a theme with sibling names
You could create a theme with the middle names of your children, for example all of their first names are traditional and all of their middle names are from your favorite movie. Or, maybe use similar names for all of their middle names, or a unisex name that they all could share as their middle name. I know, I’m throwing all the rules straight out the door but…what rules?
Meaning of the name Kinsley
I love the meaning of this name! Kinsley is a gender-neutral name of English origin that means “King’s meadow”. This unique name also has roots in old English, derived from the name Cynesige which means “royal” and “victory”. So, picking this as your child’s given name could set them up for a royal victory! The meaning of Kinsley being about a King lends itself to being a boy name but it also speaks strong woman.
Popularity of the name Kinsley
Since 2005, Kinsley has been one of the most popular girl’s names in the US. While it’s one of the most popular names for girls, it’s less popular for boys. While this name isn’t a rare name for boys, it’s definitely used more for girls.
