Why you’ll love about this Spaghetti Meat Sauce Recipe:

  • You’ll crave more! So flavorful! Kid and adult approved.
  • Great for left-overs. It tastes even better on day 2!
  • Cook it slow or quicker, depending on how much time you have. You can make this quickly, simmering it for only 30 minutes, or let it cook low and slow for hours (my favorite way).
  • Freezes well! When I have extra left-overs, I typically freeze them in a ziploc/freezer-safe bag to save for a night when I need a last-minute or easy dinner plan. You can also just double the batch and freeze half for another time.

What to Eat with this Spaghetti Meat Sauce:

  • Use any type of pasta! This meat sauce goes perfect with any type of pasta, not just spaghetti noodles. Use whatever you have in your pantry!
  • Parmesan Cheese: We always sprinkle parmesan cheese on top.
  • Pair it with a salad: We love to make a caesar salad with spaghetti.
  • Garlic bread is a must: You’ve gotta have that garlic bread for dipping in the meat sauce!
  • Caprese salad: Tomatoes, mozzarella, balsamic glaze, and fresh basil make a great side salad for this pasta dish.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 35 minutes

Cuisine Italian
Servings 8

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage I buy 1lb and freeze half for the next time I want to make this sauce!
  • 1/2 medium yellow onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic finely chopped
  • 28 ounces diced tomatoes
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons parsley

  • Cook beef, sausage, onion, and garlic in a large saucepan or pot until fully cooked.
  • Drain out the liquid/fat. I normally use a slotted spoon and just transfer the meat mixture into a second pot/pan of the same size, but you can also use a strainer (make sure it is fine mess so you don’t lose your onions and garlic) and put the meat mixture back into the same pot.
  • Add in the rest of the ingredients and stir well.
  • Bring to a boil over medium-high heat briefly, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for a few hours or on medium for 30 minutes if you’re in a rush.
  • Adjust seasonings to taste.
  • Serve over your favorite cooked pasta.
